You should always have available what we like to call a Basic Sewing Kit. Put together the following items, and it will be available to you whenever you need it
Scissors-- both fabric and paper
Sharp pointed snips
Seam Ripper
Long Pins (approx. 45mm
Measuring Tape
Ruler - 12 inches
Fabric Marking Pencil
Hand Sewing Needles -- assorted sizes
Sewing Machine Needles -- new
Blank bobbins - at least 2
Pencil and paper
Notebook/binder for starting to record sewing information
Container for sewing instruments
