What needle do you really need?
The use of the correct needle is a very important part of any Embroidery or Sewing application
There are several main points to consider when choosing the correct needles

Listed below are points of reference for you to follow that can help make your selection easier
System Number:
When ordering needles, the parts person will ask you for the system number of the needles you require. The System number you are using is usually the one the machine was set up with. A system number designates the size of the eye, as well as the needle length. If you change the system, you may have to change the timing of the machine if the length of the needle changes.
Needle Size:
This signifies the diameter of the shaft of the blade of the needle. You will usually see the American and European metric measuring systems on your box of needles
Needle Point:
There are basically two types of needle points. The Round point which is used most often has two variations. These are the Ball point and the Sharp point. The round point makes them ideal for knits and delicate fabrics where a sharp point might cut the fabric. The Ball point is also available in light and medium point. The Sharp point needles are used mainly on tightly woven garments The Wedge point needles are used mainly with leather. The wedge reduces friction while piercing the leather.
One Needle System that is in standard use for Embroidery is the system DBXK5. This sytem has an oversized eye that allows the thread to pass through much more easily. It is available in many sizes with size 75/11 being the most common.
